Folks, that's it. As of right now, I'm on Delta 636 to LA, and I don't know when I'm coming back. Although I want to. A lot.
For people who have stumbled on the site and don't want to wade through 1,300+ posts, can I suggest that you start with the summary pages? They include izakayas, Japanese junk food (with a dozen ramen recommendations), and the other titles just under the header.
For everyone else, it's been fun. I'd like to thank my sponsor, Nomura Holdings, for the time and money that it took to work on this project. I'd also like to thank the friends I made through the blog, who are the best there is, and someone, for being patient with it.
I'll be checking the email listed here, and will blog whenever I'm back in Japan and go to new places. Which will be every time I'm back in Japan.

I'll miss you.
ReplyDeleteI've been in Japan six times (speak Japanese reasonably well) and I really enjoy the Japanese restaurant scene. Your blog was one of the most accessible ways of learning a bit about that scene and I've been a steady reader for the last two years or so.
I'll be in Tokyo from Nov. 12-19 and I picked a hotel in Kanda because you have so many Kanda restaurant reviews that I figured the neighbourhood can't be too bad.
If you happen to be in Tokyo that week, let me know and I'll be happy to buy you a lunch or dinner as a small thank-you for all the reading pleasure I had from your blog.
Laughed re Nomura comment...!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the hard yards that went into the blog and fun we had along the way.
Trust that you'll leave this as your legacy for those in Tokyo to use as a reference. Case in point, last night at Honoka, I used the blog for your sake tips (Nabeshima sparkling nigori went down well...)
See you next time you're in town and all the best with the move.
Wood....
I miss you.
ReplyDeletePlease come back soon!
and let's go to Kishidaya!
お疲れ様です
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss this blog big time. My #1 food blog. Take care Jon and otsukaresama.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reviews which brought back many memories of my time in Tokyo. Your blog is definitely a must for anyone traveling or living in Tokyo- much more fun to read than Bento.com.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for the future! (and I can't wait for my next trip to Tokyo- my menu is already planned.)
I really enjoyed your posts and all the best, wherever you go!
ReplyDeleteKampai!
eating out in tokyo just isn't the same without you. thankfully i still have someone to keep me company... we will keep the flame burning.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you use the word "Jap" on your blog header. That is the ultimate derogative racial slur in English. Shame on you.
ReplyDeleteI think 'nigger' is still the ultimate racial slur, especially since words like wop, dago, kike, chink, slant, gook, and mick don't get much airtime.
ReplyDeleteI think Guitar Town is a great song. An equally appropriate line from it would have been "Stumble into restaurants, wonder why I don't stop."
I think my 70's Jap guitar is just great. It's a Humming 000-size that I got in Ochanu for $100.
I think being Anonymous is cool.
